Candidate nomination day is September 18

Candidate Registration 

​Effective January 1, 2014, the Local Authorities Election Act requires all municipal candidates to register with the Municipality in which they intend to run before they accept any campaign contributions. The registration form that must be completed and filed with the Municipality before raising funds can is available here. 

The names of all candidates who register their intent to run in the election will be updated to the attached listing. In order to be included on the election ballot, candidates must also register at City Hall on Nomination Day, Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 between 10 a.m. and noon.

Candidate Qualifications 

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Canadian citizen
  • Have been a resident of the local jurisdiction for the six consecutive months preceding Nomination Day

Additional information for candidates running for City Council include:

 
The Society of Local Government Managers of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Municipal Affairs are hosting a session for individuals running for local office.  It will be held Monday, September 11, 2017 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Lower Level, Keg Restaurant.  There is no cost.  To register, please use the attached link.
 
The Lethbridge Public Library is hosting a session for Candidates 101 on Tuesday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Crossings Branch in the Friends Place Meeting Room.  More information can be found on the attached link.
