The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.

In order to receive an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.

An Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is valid for a period of one year only. We believe our current report continues to conform to the Popular Annual Financial Reporting requirements, and we are submitting it to GFOA.

Distinguished Budget Presentation Award (2015-2018)

The City of Lethbridge submitted its 2015-2018 four year Operating Budget for review by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The City of Lethbridge, has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for a fifth time.

This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.  It reflects the commitment of City Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of budgeting.  In order to receive the Award, the City had to publish a budget document that met international program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan and as a communications device.

Given that the City’s budget is a quadrennium budget, the Award is for a four year period.  This truly represents a significant achievement for the City of Lethbridge.  Council should be very proud of its commitment to the quadrennium budgeting vision.  We are among a select few communities in Canada that have earned this Award.

Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (2015)

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Canadian Award for Financial Report to the City of Lethbridge for its annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2015. The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

In order to be awarded a Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual financial report, whose contents conform to program standards. Such reports should go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and demonstrate an effort to clearly communicate the municipal government's financial picture, enhance an understanding of financial reporting by municipal governments, and address user needs.

A Canadian Award for Financial Reporting is valid for a period of one year only. We believe our current report continues to conform to the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program requirements, and we will be submitting it to GFOA.
