Barney Bentall and the Grand Cariboo Express
Southminster United Church
In 2007, Barney Bentall found time between recording projects and touring to launch what is now known as The Cariboo Express tour. This Old West‐inspired troupe is helmed by Bentall and features a regular cast of some of Canada’s finest roots and country musicians who host a one‐of‐a‐kind fundraising event in cities throughout Western Canada each year, all in support of local charities. With an incredible roster of friends and guests including Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Wendy Bird, Kendel Carson, Matt Masters, the Gold Rush All Star band, and the occasional special guest, The Cariboo Express has raised $1 million in charitable funds to date.
With past special guests including Colin James, Jill Barber, 54-40's Neil Osborne, Jim Cuddy, Leeroy Stagger, Jeffrey Straker, and many more, the Cariboo Express uses a unique and innovative sponsorship model where local businesses and organizations became part of the show. Through song introductions, monologues, and humorous interludes, sponsors are showcased in the spirit of an old time radio show.
“It’s very important for the Geomatic Attic to give back to the community and we’re very excited to be partnering with Youth One to support their work,” says Mike Spencer, owner/promoter of the Geomatic Attic.
Since 2014, Youth One has given young people in Lethbridge an accessible, safe, fun and free place to hang out after school. It has become much more then just a drop in centre, but a community, offering support, services and programs; all of it gathered together in one place to give young people the most opportunity in life. Youth One aspires to build up our young people, so they in turn will influence their communities and the world.
