Lethbridge's three major parks will see 150 new trees take root this summer to mark Canada's 150th birthday.
City Council unanimously approved a resolution today to designate 150 trees to be planted on or around Canada Day, July 1, this year. The new trees will be planted in three groves of 50 trees each in Henderson Park, Legacy Park and Nicholas Sheran Park. The initiative will be included and funded as part of the City's annual tree planting program.
"This is a great opportunity to use our existing resources for annual tree planting in a unique way to create a tangible, memorable tribute to our nation's 150th birthday," says Councillor Jeff Coffman, who proposed to resolution to Council.
The planting schedule and the species of trees to be planted have yet to be determined.
