ATB Centre Grand Opening Free Activities

​Community members are invited for three days of free fun activities and events this weekend during the grand opening celebrations for ATB Centre-Phase 1. 

A Grand Opening Ceremony and commemorative ribbon cutting will kick things off this Friday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. at the east entrance to ATB Centre-Phase 1, which features two NHL-sized ice surfaces and a 10-sheet curling facility. Along with free activities, each day will feature a fun competition between City Council members going head to head to test their hockey, curling and skating skills! Here is the full schedule of free events: 

​Friday, Sept. 16

​​10 a.m.   Grand Opening Ceremony & Ribbon Cutting – East entrance
​​10:30 a.m. Throughout the day, try out the Rocks 'n Rings curling demonstrations at the Lethbridge Curling Club
​10:30 a.m.​Free guided tour of ATB Centre (following ribbon cutting ceremony)

For all tours, please meet in the main floor concourse at the Recreation & Culture table

​11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.​Free Public Skate – West (Red) Arena
​​1 p.m.  Free guided tour of ATB Centre
​1:15-4:30 p.m. ​Free Public Skate – East (Blue) Arena
​​4:45-6 p.m.   ​Free Youth Shinny – East (Blue) Arena
​​5 p.m.  Free guided tour of ATB Centre
​5:15-6:45 p.m. ​Free Senior Skate – West (Red) Arena
​6:15-8:30 p.m. ​Midget AAA Exhibition Hockey Game – East (Blue) Arena
7 p.m.   

City Council Puck Shoot Competition – East (Blue) Arena
Between periods of the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association game, City Councillors Bridget Mearns and Blaine Hyggen will "face off" against each other by firing pucks into the net from the blue line. Whoever gets the most pucks in the net wins. A Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association registration will be given to a child in the name of the winner.

​7 p.m. til Sat. 7 p.m.  ​Face Off Against Cancer-24 Hour Hockey Game – West (Red) Arena

Come cheer on the Face Off Against Cancer participants and stick it to cancer! You can also purchase raffle or 50/50 tickets to support lung cancer research.

​Saturday, Sept. 17

​​9:15-10:15 a.m. Free Parent & Tot Skate – East (Blue) Arena
​10:30 a.m.-Noon​Lethbridge Hurricanes open practice – East (Blue) Arena
​10:30 a.m.​Free guided tour of ATB Centre
​​11 a.m.-4 p.m.  YMCA KidZone – Outdoor activities in the parking lot will include face painting, a sidewalk chalk station, an inflatable obstacle course and more! Plus there'll be a draw for tickets to Ice Age on Ice!
​11 a.m.   City Council Closest-to-the-Button Curling Competition-Lethbridge Curling Club
Mayor Chris Spearman and Councillor Bridget Mearns will curl to see who can get their rock closest to the button. A Lethbridge Curling Club junior curler registration will be given out in the name of the winner.
​​12:30 p.m.  Free guided tour of ATB Centre
​​1:45-2:45 p.m. Free Public Skate – East (Blue) Arena
​​4:15-5:15 p.m.  Free Youth Shinny – East (Blue) Arena

​​12:15-12:45 p.m.Free skate with the Lethbridge Hurricanes – West (Red) Arena

​​2:45-3:45 p.m. Ringette Demonstration featuring Under 10 players – East (Blue) Arena

City Council Synchronized Skating Competition – West (Red) Arena
Mayor Chris Spearman along with City Councillors Blaine Hyggen and Ryan Parker will participate with young figure skaters in a synchronized skating demonstration. A fun panel of judges will determine the "most fearless" Council member, who will be named an honorary Snow Angel.
