Updated: Crews respond to fire at construction site of ATB Centre

​​​​​​2:30 p.m. update: Investigators have determined the fire to be accidental. A regulator from a propane heater malfunctioned causing construction material to ignite.​

Further evaluation of damages has increased the estimated cost to $100,000 due to the warping of two steel beams. ​​

City of Lethbridge, Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fire on the second floor of the construction site of Phase 2 of ATB Centre on Sunday Jan 29 at 6:10 p.m.

Three stations responded and crews quickly extinguished the fire.  No injuries were reported.

Phase 1 of ATB Centre which houses two ice rinks and a curling rink was not impacted by the fire and no evacuation was required.

Initial estimated damage is $15 000 but further examination of the structure is still required.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing and a cause has not yet been determined.​
