As Lethbridge City Council prepares to approve the City's next Capital Improvement Program (CIP), residents are invited to join the process through various engagement opportunities.
Community projects seeking capital funding through the CIP will be presented to City Council's Finance Committee starting Monday, January 23. Presentations will also be made February 6, March 6, March 20 and April 3. The public are invited to watch these presentations online or in-person at City Hall.
Later this spring, after all presentations have been made to Council, residents will have the opportunity to get information and give feedback through an online community engagement tool. There will also be static displays set up at locations throughout the city where public can get review details and fill out feedback forms.
In-person engagement opportunities will be available in April and May for public to learn more, ask questions and give input to City Council on CIP projects.
"Gathering the public's feedback is an important step for City Council," says Councilor Jeff Carlson, Chair of the Open and Effective Government (OEG) Committee. "Our OEG committee has been focused on creating community engagement throughout the CIP process. This feedback helps us understand the needs and wishes of the community and is one method used for prioritizing community projects."
After gathering all of this information, Council will go into budget deliberations the week of May 15-19 with the final approval of the CIP scheduled for June, 2017.
The CIP identifies required capital projects within the City of Lethbridge and provides a planning schedule and financing strategy. This is a 10 year plan (2018-2027) with funding identified for projects approved within the first four year window.
There will be limited CIP funding available in the next four years. City of Lethbridge departments and local community organizations with CIP needs will be challenged to stretch their thinking and focus on what the community will need in the next 10 years and beyond.
