Council backs local bid to host 2020 Alberta Summer Games

City Council approved a request for $250,000 ($150,000 cash/$100,000 in-kind) to support a Lethbridge bid to host the 2020 Alberta Summer Games. The four-day event would draw roughly 3,500 athletes, coaches and officials to Lethbridge in July 2020. If the bid is successful, the funding will be allocated from the Major Community Events Hosting Grant.

Council approves allocation of available FCSS funding

Council approved a request from the Community and Social Development Committee to use approximately $291,000 in previously unallocated provincial funding for Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) to fund four local initiatives.

To approve the request from the Community and Social Development (CSD)Committee to allocate available FCSS funding as follows:

  • $39,900 to Family Centre to sustain the Supporting Father Involvement Program
  • $86,250 to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4 to continue the Family First Facilitator Pilot Program
  • $45,000 per year for 2017 and 2018 to the Go Friendly Program to meet operating pressures
  • $75,000 for the CSD Committee to conduct community consultations for the development of a CSD strategic plan
