Lethbridge is taking a run at hosting the 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games

City Council approved a request for support to take a run at attracting the 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games to Lethbridge. From the Major Community Event Hosting Grant, Council approved $20,000 for the local organizing committee to prepare a bid presentation as well as a letter of support to the Can-Am Police-Fire Games Federation. Up to $180,000 was also approved from the same grant for hosting the event, should the bid be successful.

Resolution In Favour Opposed

To approve the request from the Lethbridge Sport Council for:

  • $20,000 for the bid presentation for the 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games and the local organizing committee as well as
  • $180,000 ($140,000 in cash & $40,000 in kind), subject to the Games bid being successfully and to the presentation of a detailed event budget to City Council

with funding to be allocated from the Major Community Event Hosting Grant.

Galt Gardens Master Plan presented to City Council

City Council members received an overview of the newly developed Galt Gardens Master Plan. The Master Plan was developed to provide direction in the reconstruction of Galt Gardens and to outline preliminary cost estimates to be used for future Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budgeting. The Master Plan process included reviewing prior plans and documents, completing a geotechnical study, engaging the community, completing conceptual designs and finalizing a design concept.

Council briefed on successful mission to Asia

Mayor Chris Spearman and a delegation of local business and community representatives provided an overview of their work overseas to City Council today. Visiting both China and Japan from February 12-25, the Lethbridge delegation made excellent connections in the areas of economic development and education.
