Construction of the new Henderson Lake retaining wall improves access and safety

Renovations to the Henderson Lake retaining wall were recently completed in the south Lethbridge feature park. The project included removal of the deteriorating wooden retaining wall near the concession plaza and installation of a tiered stone wall.

"Maintaining and improving park amenities to enhance user experience is a high priority for the City," says Parks Development Manager Chris Witkowski. "The lower wall now offers residents 50 metres of continuous access to the water with the upper wall maintaining the look and function of the concession plaza. This project has enhanced the aesthetic appeal of Henderson Lake Park while providing a necessary upgrade to the wall structure."

The new split-level retaining wall includes a lit post-and-chain fence. The project has:

  • Improved structural integrity of the retaining wall
  • Created additional seating areas
  • Extended access to the lakefront
  • Improved lighting along the water for safety
