in the Yates Memorial Centre, 1002-4 Avenue South
The Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Service Honour Guard, on behalf of IAFF Local 237 and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, will hold a memorial service on Friday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. to continue the tradition of honouring all our fallen brothers and sisters of the fire service.
The memorial will include a parade of uniformed members beginning at 10:30 a.m. from Station #1 Fire Headquarters at 207- 4 Ave South, eastward along 4 Avenue South to the Yates Memorial Centre, immediately east of City Hall. The parade will include the Honour Guard, Lethbridge Firefighters Pipes and Drums, uniformed personnel, and apparatus from various area emergency services.
There have been approximately 160 firefighter and emergency personnel who have died in the last year serving their communities. The memorial honours and recognizes the ultimate sacrifice that each of these people made.
This year's ceremony will include poem recitations and prayers by firefighters and their families. A firefighter bell ceremony and laying of wreaths by local officials, departments and family members will also take place.
