A special event celebrating the official grand opening of Henderson Pool will take place this Thursday, July 28. Due to this event, there will be no public swimming at Henderson Pool on this day.
Public are invited to the official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at Henderson Pool at 11:00 a.m. A short program will be held poolside including speeches from municipal, provincial and federal government representatives and pool operators, Recreation Excellence. This will be followed by the official ribbon cutting ceremony and re-dedication of the pool.
Immediately following the ceremony, participants will move to the Henderson Horseshoe Pit for a barbeque hosted by the Rotary Club of Lethbridge. This barbeque is open to the public and is free for the first 1,000 people. Those attending the barbeque will have a chance to win a prize pack including four tickets to Ice Age On Ice! and a limited edition Henderson Pool towel.
After the ribbon cutting, Henderson Pool staff will prepare for the first of two free swims for over 2,000 contest winners. Over the last two weeks, participants have entered via an online contest to win their way into the Big Splash grand opening swim. The contest winners have been awarded free passes to one of two swims scheduled for 12 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Those looking for outdoor water activities on Thursday are encouraged to visit Westminister Pool (411-16th Street North) or one of the City's two spray parks - Rotary Centennial Fountain (southeast corner of Galt Gardens, downtown Lethbridge) or Gyro Spray Park (south side of Nicholas Sheran Pool - 401 Laval Blvd West). Henderson Pool will re-open to the public on Friday, July 29 with its regular hours of 12 – 8 p.m.
