Effective Monday, Aug. 15 at 7 a.m., Whoop-Up Drive will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at the Scenic Drive South overpass for construction of an emergency median crossover.
This lane closure will remain in effect until Friday, Aug. 19. During this period, the speed limit along this section of Whoop-Up Drive will be reduced in both directions. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and obey posted signs.
Construction of a second emergency median crossover on Whoop-Up Drive at the University Drive overpass is scheduled to begin later this month.
This work is part of a comprehensive plan for managing traffic on Whoop-Up Drive during emergency situations which was approved by City Council in January. The plan addresses the need to maintain two-way traffic in the event that one direction of travel is closed. It also outlines the process for managing eastbound traffic in the event of a West Lethbridge evacuation.
