On Thursday, Oct. 13 from 1-3 p.m., Whoop-Up Drive will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at the University Drive overpass to finish work on the new emergency median crossover.
During this two-hour period, the speed limit along this section of Whoop-Up Drive will be reduced to 60 km/h in both directions. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and obey posted signs.
Construction of this emergency crossover median and a similar one on Whoop-Up Drive at the Scenic Drive South overpass was completed this past summer. This work is part of a comprehensive plan for managing traffic on Whoop-Up Drive during emergency situations which was approved by City Council earlier this year. The plan addresses the need to maintain two-way traffic in the event that one direction of travel is closed. It also outlines the process for managing eastbound traffic in the event of a West Lethbridge evacuation.
