The community is reminded that parking at the Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre is designated for patrons only and enforcement will be increasing to ensure pool and arena users can access the facility.
Since the start of University classes this fall, the parking lot has been filled to capacity leaving no parking for those wanting to skate and swim. Unfortunately, this congestion is causing significant challenges for seniors and parents with small children who access these facilities during the day.
Although we understand the parking concerns at the U of L, the City has an obligation to provide parking for patrons visiting community recreation facilities. The City will be posting signage and distributing flyers in the coming days to remind drivers that the Nicholas Sheran parking lot is for patrons only. A commissionaire will be on-site next week to check that those entering the lot are doing so to access the rink and pool only.
If parking congestion continues, the City may resort to ticketing and towing offending vehicles in order to provide adequate parking for community members using these facilities.
We thank the community for being understanding and respecting parking requirements for this busy recreation facility.
