Mayor comments on passing new bill to help victims of domestic violence

Following are comments from Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman regarding the Aug. 9, 2016 announcement of new private members bill that makes it easier for victims of domestic violence to flee abuse:

"I commend MLA Drever for bringing forward this new bill to make it easier for victims of domestic violence to escape dangerous living situations, and I applaud the Alberta government for passing it into law. No woman should be forced to continue living in a violent home because of a lease agreement. As a community, we also acknowledge the courage of our Lethbridge East MLA Maria Fitzpatrick in sharing her own painful history as victim of domestic violence while speaking in support of this bill in our provincial legislature."
