On Monday, June 13th at 9 a.m. rainbow crosswalk painting will begin at four intersections around Galt Gardens. These rainbow crosswalks will be highly visible to pedestrians and motorists alike as well attendees at Lethbridge Pride Fest's
Pride in the Park at Galt Gardens on June 25, 2016.
The painting of rainbow crosswalks was approved by City Council on March 21st after a presentation by Lethbridge Pride Fest board members. Pride Fest will be paying for the supplies and City of Lethbridge employees will be completing the work.
"We are pleased to partner with Lethbridge Pride Fest on the painting of these crosswalks," says Mayor Chris Spearman. "When residents see the rainbow, it will serve as a reminder of Lethbridge's diversity and inclusiveness as well as the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community."
"Rainbow crosswalks have been painted in other communities for quite some time," says Lethbridge Pride Fest Board Member Erik Mikkelsen. "It's great that Lethbridge is now one of them, helping to break down barriers to inclusivity as well as helping us to kick-off Pride in the Park."
The crosswalks are being painting with biodegradable paint that will fade and wear off in approximately one month. They will then be repainted as per City of Lethbridge crosswalk standards.
***The Lethbridge Pride Fest Society and the City of Lethbridge welcome all media to view the rainbow crosswalks being painted in downtown Lethbridge on Monday, June 13th at 9 a.m.
