Starting Wednesday, July 5, Métis Trail West will be closed between Whoop-Up Drive and Coalbanks Link West to accommodate construction on the Whoop-Up Drive twinning project.
This closure is necessary for construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Métis Trail West and Whoop-Up Drive and is expected to last approximately 8 weeks, weather permitting. This closure will coincide with the completion of construction and reopening of the intersection of Coalbanks Gate West and Whoop-Up Drive.
During this closure, traffic will be detoured via Silkstone Road West and Coalbanks Gate West. Whoop-Up Drive will remain open, and access to Copperwood will be available via Coalbanks Gate as well as 30 Street West. In addition, a short detour will be in place along Whoop-Up Drive at the Métis Trail intersection. Pedestrian access along Whoop-Up Drive will be maintained while this construction is occurring.
The City of Lethbridge recognizes that construction on Whoop-Up Drive and Metis Trail has a significant impact on residents and visitors to Copperwood, Garry Station and the Crossings area. As a result, these projects have been coordinated to minimize impacts to traffic and to offer alternative routes during construction. For the safety of construction workers, motorists are advised to drive with caution in work areas and to follow posted speed limits or detours.
