Lethbridge will proudly host the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) July 6-9, 2016 and local residents are encouraged to get involved as both participants and volunteers.
The SASG is a grassroots festival that provides opportunity for new and upcoming athletes as well as recreational participants to be a part of a larger games experience. This year's event will mark the 47th anniversary of the SASG and will feature 21 different sports and activities for participants of all ages and abilities. Approximately 2000 participants are expected to take part from communities across southern Alberta.
Those wishing to compete will pay a $25 registration fee which allows them to participate in up to three events. A wide variety of events from photography to pickleball will be available and Team Lethbridge is looking to put in a strong showing.
"These are our games, in our hometown," says Karlene Quinton, 2016 SASG Regional Director for the City of Lethbridge. "We are really excited about putting together a strong, proud group of athletes who will represent Lethbridge well."
In addition to seeking participants, the organizing committee is also recruiting volunteers to help run this four day event. Some of the volunteer opportunities include: keeping score, recording results, presenting medals, providing first aid assistance and operating concession booths.
"With such a wide variety of events comes a really great mix of volunteer opportunities as well," says Eric Sharp, SASG Coordinator. "We are hoping to create a fun experience for volunteers where they can meet new people, get to know the community a bit better and explore new activities they might not be familiar with."
The deadline for participant registration is June 6. Registration forms are available online at www.southernalbertasummergames.com or by contacting the Regional Director via email at Karlene.firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 403-320-4017.
