As renovations advance on the exciting new enhancements to the Genevieve Yates Memorial Centre, the facility's ticket centre will close. Starting April 29, until the completion of construction, anticipated in May 2018, those wishing to purchase tickets can do so by phone, online or at the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre.
Site renovations have been ongoing for several months, working around the still operational theatre space. The decision to close the Yates Ticket Centre was made due to the ongoing construction in the building, as well as the slowdown of events and activities happening in the Yates. In September 2017, the entire facility is anticipated to close for an eight month period (September 2017 – May 2018) to complete the work within the theatre spaces.
Ticket purchases or inquiries can still be made by calling (403) 329-7328, in-person at the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre (2510 Scenic Drive South) or online at http://www.enmaxcentre.ca.
In November 2016, City Council approved advancing improvements to the Yates Memorial Centre after receiving $3.5 million from the Federal government's Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.
This funding allowed for work that was already planned to be done more quickly, including changes that will make the facility more accessible.
The renovations will increase performance capabilities and improve audience experience. The work will include upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, a fire sprinkler system, performance audio/visual systems, acoustic treatments, upgraded finishes like paint, flooring and ceilings, catwalk relocation, dressing room revisions, seating replacements and roof replacement. The new dollars will support barrier free washroom upgrades, the addition of elevators, signage and a concrete floor under the auditorium.
