Community & Social Development works with the community, our partners and human service providers to implement the priorities outlined in the Social Policy for the City of Lethbridge. With direction from a committee of City Council, these priorities include providing services and programs for families with children, seniors, Aboriginal people, youth, new Canadians and people with disabilities.
This department contracts and supports agencies in the community to provide human services for people with a focus on prevention and referring people to the right service: Family & Community Support Services, Housing and Homelessness, Emergency Social Services (in case of disasters) and various other community projects. Examples of these projects developed through work in the community and with partners include prevention of family violence, building assets in our children and youth, elder abuse, strategies to reduce the impact of poverty, building a welcoming and inclusive community, seniors community forum and substance abuse response team, to name a few.
