Lethbridge, Alberta - Census results show that the population of the City of Lethbridge has grown to 78,713 people. “It's a reflection of a strong, vibrant economy without the growth that's out of control,” says Mayor Bob Tarleck. “The challenge, he adds, is to ensure the City continues to grow but at a rate that is sustainable. He says slow, steady growth is preferable to fast growth spurts that stress infrastructure and services, inflate real estate values and put pressure on health care and educational facilities."
The southern portion of the Westside grew by 616 people to 13,207, a jump of 4.89 per cent from 2005. The east portion of the Northside came in second, growing by 306 people for a total of 16, 516 or 1.89 per cent.
The census taken this year asked about the number of people living in the household, and their age and gender.
