MUNICIPAL CENSUS 2010
Lethbridge Municipal Census City of Lethbridge is home to 1,167 new residents
Lethbridge, Alberta - The City of Lethbridge continues to grow with the official 2010 census result at 86,659, a 1.37 per cent over the 2009 municipal census number. The strongest growth occurred in West and North Lethbridge with 910 and 281 new residents respectively. Slight decline in population occurred in South Lethbridge.
"The Census results reflect the City remains a vibrant, dynamic community showing a continued sustainable growth pattern", says Mayor Bob Tarleck. "It remains encouraging that we are still growing. Alberta continues to have growth rates stronger than the national average. Statistics Canada 2010 first quarter results show Alberta's population climbed 0.35% to 3,724,800."
The City of Lethbridge continues to perform a census every year as it provides an accurate count for provincial and federal funding. Funding received from these sources will be used for facilities such as the Twin Ice Centre and the West Lethbridge Centre Library.
The City is pleased with the commitment of the census takers and the response from the residents. The census taken asked for the number of people living in the household, their age and gender. The City population in 2009 was 85,492.
