The Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services provides the necessary personnel and equipment to carry out emergency medical response and pre-hospital stabilization to the community. We have responded to approximately 9,900 medical calls in the year 2008. With four (4) Fire Stations within the City, we have also responded to over 1,259 calls to ensure the suppression and safe control of structural, vehicular and wild land fires.
Fire and EMS have been integrated since July of 1912. This dual role is attractive to many new recruits, as it provides a variety of opportunities. By providing an integrated system, the citizens of Lethbridge and area are assured of safety and security without the burden of high per capita costs. To broaden our quality of service to the community, Lethbridge will be one of the first cities in Alberta to execute the operation of ALS (Advanced Life Support) Pumps. ALS Pumps are equipped with paramedics and the necessary drugs and monitoring equipment as would be found in an ambulance. Therefore, when all our ambulances are responding to other calls, the ALS Pump can adequately respond to any new emergencies requiring medical assistance and/or fire suppression.
