Hazardous Materials

“Hazardous Incidents” has typically been referred to situations involving chemical leaks/spills.  The expression has now broadened to also include events related to terrorist activities.  Ever since the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the potential threat posed by chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) weapons in the hands of terrorists has been an area of major concern for cities all over the world.

As in any crisis, Fire/EMS departments and the local Police are the logical first responders when a hazardous incident occurs.  As such, the department endeavors to ensure that response teams are trained and equipped to deal safely and effectively with a multitude of situations.
