Initiated in 1998, the purpose of the Parkland Interpretation Program is to:
- Promote the variety of parks and park-related recreation opportunities within the City of Lethbridge.
- Report the needs and concerns of parkland users to the City of Lethbridge's administration.
Parkland Tips
- Exercise care by staying on developed trails from May to October when hiking in Peenaquim, Popson, and Cottonwood Park areas as these parks are home to rattlesnake and bull snake populations.
- Rattlesnakes are not aggressive. If you encounter a snake, walk slowly away from it to give it plenty of room to escape from you.
- Picking of berries in city parkland is prohibited under City Bylaw 3364-10. Please leave berries for the wildlife!
- Dog(s) must be on-leash at all times in the city parks, except for those designated as off-leash areas.
- Off-leash areas are the Scenic Drive Dog Run, the Peenaquim Park Dog Run, and the Popson Park Dog Run.
- Dog feces must be picked up at all times, even in the off-leash areas. Dog feces does not make good fertilizer.
- Dogs, vehicles, bicycles, horses, and fires ARE PROHIBITED within nature reserves. City of Lethbridge nature reserves include the Elizabeth Hall Wetlands, Cottonwood Park and Alexander Wilderness Park.
- Fireworks MAY NOT be discharged within the city parks.
