The Yates Memorial Centre is situated in downtown Lethbridge, adjacent to City Hall, at 1002 - 4 Avenue South. There are hotels and motels, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, all within walking distance of the theatre. Parking is available on the street and in several adjacent lots. During the day there are various restrictions on parking, including time limits and coin meters. All parking is free after 6:00 p.m.

The Genevieve E. Yates Memorial Centre is owned and operated by the City of Lethbridge and the operation is administered by Recreation & Culture, located 3rd Floor, City Hall, 910 - 4 Avenue South. Recreation & Culture also coordinates booking the facility. Day-to-day operation of the theatres, including caretaking, user needs and technical support are coordinated by the Head Technician in the Yates Memorial Centre.

Construction of the Genevieve E. Yates Memorial Centre was started on August 15, 1965 and the building was opened on May 1, 1966. Mr. Deane R. Yates, a prominent and successful Lethbridge retailer, bequeathed $200,347.00 to be used as a memorial fund and to be known as the Genevieve E. Yates Memorial to erect in the Civic Centre in the City of Lethbridge, a cultural building equal to the needs of the City of Lethbridge.
