PARTNERS FOR A SAFE COMMUNITY

Transit Operators keep a watchful eye on the community.

Working in a combination "Community Watch" and "Block Parent" role, they report suspicious activities to police, and help lost children get to where they're going.

All school and Transit buses are considered a Safe Haven to children, adults and senior citizens.

Because Operators are in continuous radio contact with transit dispatch, they can radio for emergency help whenever fire, police, or emergency medical services are required.

They report road problems out-of-order traffic lights and missing signs.

The Green way to go

DID YOU KNOW THAT...

  • The average car in a Canadian city carries only 1.3 people.  A single 40-foot Transit vehicle replaces about 50 cars in rush-hour traffic.
  • Car drivers use as much energy driving in four years as a Transit rider uses in 40 years of riding the bus.
  • Over the lifetime the average car will use 10,000 litres of gasoline.   If just one motorist in ten switched to public transit annual global production of gasoline could be cut by 17%.  Every year cars produce about 12,000 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions.
  • In Canada, transit vehicles account for less than two percent of all energy used in transportation.

  • The annual total cost of operating a car is $7,714.75.
