LETHBRIDGE TRANSIT IS IMPROVING TO SERVE YOU
Lethbridge, Alberta – On June 30th, 2010, residents can experience service improvements at Lethbridge Transit. These improvements were approved in the 2009 – 2011 Operating Budget and are part of the ongoing efforts to improve service to transit customers. Improvements to be implemented included:
- New route to service Copperwood, Chinook High, Catholic Central Westside campus and the new Westside Library (Route 35 Copperwood)
- Increased service to West Highlands (Route 33 Heritage)
“West Lethbridge is the fastest growing area of Lethbridge”, says Wade Coombs, Strategic Planning Manager, “This new service will allow us to provide service to Copperwood (which is currently does not have any service) and the new westside high schools opening this fall.”
In order to increase service to West Highlands, changes have been made to Route 33 Heritage Heights and Route 32 Indian Battle Heights. To learn more visit www.lethbridge.ca, or call the Transit office at (403) 320-3885. New Ride Guides are also available at all passes and tickets outlets or by asking any transit operator.
These service improvements are a result of the Transit Service Review done in 2006, in which the community gave input into the level of transit service they believed Lethbridge should have. The Service Review resulted in the Transit Service Standards adopted by Council in September 2006. Initial improvements were then made in 2007 that included increased evening/weekend service coverage; more consistent schedules between days, evenings and weekends; new service into the Industrial Parks and Auto Mall; and new fifteen minute daytime service in selected areas. Further improvements were made in 2009 which included increasing from 60 minute Monday to Friday evening service to 30 minute service until 10 p.m., increasing service between Downtown and the College and between the University and Indian Battle Heights from 30 minute peak hour service to 15 minute peak hour service (Sept – April).
Improvements are scheduled for 2011 that will see Saturday morning service increase from 60 minutes to 30 minutes from 7a.m. – 10a.m.
Transit will be reviewing service levels for possible improvements in the 2012 – 2014 Operating Budget.
