“IMPROVING TO SERVE YOU”

Service Improvements Effective August 26, 2009

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Transit will be implementing Phase II of its service improvements starting August 26, 2009. These improvements were approved in the 2009 – 2011 Operating Budget and are part of the ongoing efforts to improve service to transit customers. Improvements to be implemented included:

  • Improving 60 minute Monday to Friday evening service to 30 minute service until 10 PM

  • Improving service between Downtown and College and the University and Indian Battle Heights from 30 minute peak hour to 15 minute peak hour service (September - April).

“The new service levels will increase the options people have when taking transit in the evenings or during peak hours in Indian Battle Heights and from the College to downtown,” says Wade Coombs, Manager of Transit Planning and Schedules. “For example, someone who is working until 9:00 pm at Park Place can now catch the bus at 9:30 downtown, they don’t have to leave work early or wait until 10:00 pm.”

These service improvements are a result of the Transit Service Review done in 2006 where the community gave input into the level of transit service they believed Lethbridge should have. The Service Review resulted in the Transit Service Standards adopted by Council in September 2006. Initial improvements were then made in 2007, to address some areas that did not meet the new Service Standards. These improvements included increased evening/weekend service coverage; more consistent schedules between days, evenings and weekends; new service into the Industrial Parks and Auto Mall; and new fifteen minute daytime service in selected areas.

Improvements scheduled for this fall are the second phase of improvements planned to meet areas that are not meeting the Service Standards. Further improvements are scheduled for 2010 (new Westside route) and 2011 (increased Saturday morning from 60 minutes to 30 minutes from 7:00 am – 10:00 am). Transit will be reviewing service levels for possible improvements in the 2012 – 2014 Operating Budget.
