City of Lethbridge Animal Shelter

General Information

The Animal Shelter and Animal Control program is managed through a contractual relationship. The current Animal Shelter vendor is SPD Animal Services. The Animal Shelter is located at 2405 41st N and the hours of operation are 9:00 AM till 6:00 PM weekdays and 11:00 AM till 5:00 PM on Saturdays. You may also contact the animal shelter at 320- 4099. Services provided at the City of Lethbridge Animal Shelter include:

  • Enforcement of the City of Lethbridge Dog Control Bylaw 5235  is used to control and support the activities of dogs in our community.
     
  • Issuing of Dog licenses and replacement tags to City residents. Dog licenses and replacement tags may also be obtained at City Hall.

    Please be advised that every resident dog in the City of Lethbridge over the age of 6 months is required to obtain an annual license. The current yearly license fee is $40.00 for an unsterilized dog and $25.00 for a sterilized dog. If an unsterilized dog is marked for identification, the annual fee is $35.00, if sterilized and marked $20.00.  Should you wish to house more than 2 dogs at a single residence you must apply for a dog fanciers license through the animal shelter and if approved there is a yearly dog fanciers license fee of $20 in addition to the regular license fee per dog. No single residence in the City of Lethbridge is allowed to house more than 4 dogs
  • Adoption of stray animals housed at the city Animal Shelter.
  • Loaning of cat and skunk traps to city residents.
