This is the time of year the cemetery gates remain open longer each day (8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) starting April 1st.
The summer grounds crew arrive to mow and water. Flowers are on the way.
Our staff takes great pride in the appearance of your cemeteries and work within established safe work practices to keep our crew and you free from injury.
Thank you for helping us keep your cemeteries looking good and keeping them safe for staff and visitors.
In accordance with the Cemetery Bylaw:
Floral arrangements placed on a grave at the time of burial will be left in place for five days before they are removed by cemetery staff, just keep in mind that the deer do like roses and have been known to snaffle them up right away.
If you have placed special arrangements, stands or solar lights on the graves of your loved ones during the winter months now is the time to take them home or discard them.
From May 1st to September 30th each year; live flowers may be placed directly on a grave if there is no container or live flowers may be placed in an unbreakable spiked container next to the headstone.
Live or artificial flowers are allowed in a vase that is an actual part of the headstone during this time.
No glass, metal, wire or breakable material please as these types of things create a safety concern for our grounds crew.
Each year on the week following Mother’s Day (the second Sunday in May) cemetery staff remove any flowers or articles with breakable material from all the graves.
These articles are kept in a fenced enclosure near the maintenance yard for families to identify and pick up.
