Zooming shows the map at a different scale so that a smaller or larger area is displayed. There are three ways to zoom:
using the zoom controls
using the mouse scroll wheel
highlighting an area with the mouse
These three methods are described in the following sections.
Zoom Using the Zoom Controls
The zoom controls appear in the top-left corner of the map.
Using these controls will zoom in or out on the location currently at the centre of the map.
To zoom in (show a
smaller area), click the
+ button on the control.
To zoom out (show a larger area), click the
– button on the control.
Zoom Using the Mouse Scroll Wheel
Using the mouse scroll wheel will zoom in or out on the location at which the mouse pointer is positioned.
To zoom in, roll the
wheel away from you.
To zoom out, roll the wheel towards you.
Zoom by Highlighting an Area
Highlighting a rectangular area with the mouse will zoom in or out on that area.
To zoom in on an area:
Press and hold the
Press and hold the primary mouse button to define the first corner of the desired
area. The mouse pointer will change to a crosshairs symbol.
Move or “drag” the mouse pointer to the opposite corner of the desired area. The selected area will be highlighted.
Release the mouse button. The map will zoom in on the highlighted area.
To zoom out on an area:
Press and hold both the
Shift keys and repeat steps 2-4 above.
