Drawing Details

The drawing tool has several options available for drawing different types of shapes.  Click below for more details:

Drawing a Circle
​​​​Triangle mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a circle on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Circle ​mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a circle will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or customize the Color, Transparency, Outline Color and Outline Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and circumference of the circle after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on circle's desired centre point on the map.
  6. Move the mouse out from the centre point until the circle reaches the desired size. 
  7. Release the mouse to finish the circle.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional circles on the map.​
  9. To remove​ the ​circles from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.

Drawing a Line
​​​​​​Line mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a line on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Line mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a line will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset line from the available choices or customize the Color, Style, Transparency and Width​.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the length of the line after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the line's desired starting point on the map.
  6. Move the mouse towards the line's ending point. The line will be drawn between the starting point and the current mouse location. Hint: pressing the CTRL key while drawing the line will make it "snap" every few degrees. This feature is useful for drawing vertical or horizontal lines.
  7. Release the mouse at the ending point to finish the line.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional lines on the map.​
  9. To clear the ​lines from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Freehand Polygon
​Freehand Polygon mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a freehand polygon on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Freehand Polygon mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a freehand polygon will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or manually adjust the Color, Style, Transparency and Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and perimeter of the polygon after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the desired location of the polygon's starting point.
  6. Move the mouse to define the shape of the polygon. A line will appear, connecting the starting point with the current mouse location.
  7. Release the mouse at the ending point to finish the polygon.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional polygons on the map.​
  9. To clear the ​polygons from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Freehand Polyline
​​​​Freehand Polyline mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a freehand line on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Freehand Polyine mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a freehand polyline will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset line from the available choices or manually adjust the Color, Style, Transparency and Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the length of the line after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the line's desired starting point on the map.
  6. Move the mouse towards the line's ending point. A line will be drawn between the starting point and the current mouse location.
  7. Release the mouse at the line's ending point to finish the line.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional lines on the map.​
  9. To clear the ​lines from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing an Ellipse
​Ellipse mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw an ellipse on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Ellipse mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing an ellipse will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or customize the Color, Transparency, Outline Color and Outline Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and circumference of the ellipse after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the ellipse's desired centre point on the map.
  6. Move the mouse out from the centre point until the ellipse reaches the desired size. 
  7. Release the mouse to finish the ellipse.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional ellipses on the map.​
  9. To remove​ the ​ellipses from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing an Extent
​​Extent mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw an extent (rectangle) on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Extent ​mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing an extent will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or customize the Color, Transparency, Outline Color and Outline Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and perimeter of the extent after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the desired location of the extent's first corner on the map.
  6. Move the mouse towards the opposite corner of the extent until it reaches the desired size. 
  7. Release the mouse at the opposite corner to finish the extent.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional extents on the map.​
  9. To remove​ the ​extents from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Point
​​​Point mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to mark a location on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Point mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a point will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​ Note: the parameters shown below are available for point symbols. For picture symbols, only the Symbol Size is available.
  3. Select the symbol category.  ​

    • Outdoor and Recreation
    • People and Places
    • Safety and Health
    • Shapes
    • Transportation

  5. ​​Click the desired symbol.
  6. Change any of the available options (Symbol Size​, Color, Transparency, Outline Color or Outline Width).
  7. Click the desired location on the map to place the symbol.
  8. Repeat steps 1-6 to add additional symbols to the map.
  9. To clear the ​symbols from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Polygon
​​​​​​Polygon mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a polygon on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Polygon mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a polygon will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or customize the Color, Style, Transparency and Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and perimeter of the polygon after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click the desired location of the polygon's first corner on the map. 
  6. Move the mouse towards the polygon's second corner. A line will appear, connecting the first corner and the current mouse location.
  7. Click the polygon's second corner on the map.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to add more corners to the polygon. 
  9. Double-click the location of the last corner to finish the polygon.​
  10. Repeat steps 1-9 to draw additional polygons on the map.​
  11. To clear the ​polygons from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Polyline
​​​​​​​Polyline mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a line with multiple segments ​​on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Polyline mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a polyline will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset line from the available choices or customize the Color, Style, Transparency and Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the length of the line after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click the ​​line's desired starting point on the map. 
  6. Move the mouse towards the line's second point on the map. A line will appear, connecting the starting point and the current mouse location.
  7. Click the line's second point on the map.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to add more points to the polyline. 
  9. Double-click the line's ending point to finish the line.​
  10. Repeat steps 1-9 to draw additional polylines on the map.​
  11. To clear the ​lines from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing a Triangle
​​​​​Triangle mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to draw a triangle on the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Triangle ​mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing a triangle will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Select a preset from the available choices or customize the Color, Transparency, Outline Color and Outline Width.
  4. If desired, click Show Measurements to display the area and perimeter of the triangle after it is drawn on the map.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the triangle's desired centre point on the map.
  6. Move the mouse out from the centre point until the triangle reaches the desired size. 
  7. Release the mouse to finish the triangle.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 to draw additional triangles on the map.​
  9. To remove​ the ​triangles from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
Drawing Text
​Text mode in the Draw widget can be ​​used to add text to the map as ​​follows:
  1. Open the Draw widget and click the Text mode button.
  2. ​The available options for drawing text will appear at the bottom of the widget.​​​
    ​ 
  3. Enter the desired text in the Text field.
  4. If desired, change the Font Color or Font Size.
  5. Click on the desired location on the map to place the text.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 to add additional text to the map.
  7. To clear the ​text from the map, click the Clear link, close the Draw widget or open a different widget.
