Zooming shows the map at a different scale so that a smaller or larger area is displayed. There are three ways to zoom:
Zoom Slider widget
using the mouse scroll wheel
highlighting an area with the mouse
These three methods are described in the following sections.
Zoom Using the Zoom Slider Widget
The Zoom Slider widget is located in the top-left corner of the map. The widget is shown below.
Clicking the widget will zoom in or out on the location which is currently at the centre of the map.
To zoom in (show a smaller area), click the + button on the widget.
To zoom out (show a larger area), click the – button on the widget.
Zoom Using the Mouse Scroll Wheel
Using the mouse scroll wheel will zoom in or out on the location at which the mouse pointer is positioned.
To zoom in, roll the wheel up as if you are scrolling up on a page.
To zoom out, roll the wheel down as if you are scrolling down on a page.
Zoom by Highlighting an Area
Highlighting a rectangular area with the mouse will zoom in or out on that area.
To zoom in on an area:
Press and hold the Shift key.
Click and hold the mouse to define the first corner of the desired area. The mouse pointer will change to a crosshairs symbol.
- Move or “drag” the mouse pointer to the opposite corner of the desired area. The selected area will be highlighted.
Release the mouse button. The map will zoom in on the highlighted area.
To zoom out on an area:
Press and hold both the
Shift keys and repeat steps 2-4 above.
