Crossings Leisure Complex Phase 1 - Previous Project Updates
February 4, 2016 - More than 100 construction workers are on site daily, and substantial construction completion of Phase 1 is scheduled for mid-February. Balancing, testing, commissioning (startup) and training will begin in the latter half of February. Flooring installation and floor finishing is underway along with painting, millwork (cabinets) and equipment installation. Installation of interior windows is ongoing throughout the facility. Arena seating is installed.
January 12, 2016 - Project is on budget, scheduled for substantial completion by late January/early February (remaining cladding and some landscaping will be outstanding but are anticipated to be completed/resolved by end of March). Lighting is completed over the ice arenas and is now being installed in the curling rink. The main staircase in the mall corridor is completed and formwork is being removed. Mechanical and electrical work is ongoing. Painting and flooring is ongoing. Air/water balancing, commissioning and training is planned to start in January.
August 21, 2015 - The refrigerated concrete slab has been poured in the west ice arena, and installation of in-slab refrigeration lines and rebar is underway in the east arena and curling facility. Interior and exterior masonry is nearing completion. Construction of the parking lot should begin soon. Looking ahead: Construction of refrigerated concrete slabs is to continue through to October.
May 29, 2015 - Exterior wall cladding is ongoing - currently working on east elevation. Rebar installation is underway in arena change rooms and perimeter arena slabs. Interior steel stud wall framing, dry walling, painting and masonry are occurring throughout the facility. HVAC units have been installed in the arena mechanical room. Duct installation is ongoing throughout the facility. Plumbing and electrical rough-in work is underway in the kitchen area and throughout the second floor. Installation of refrigeration piping is underway in the main corridor to the header trenches. Site grading has begun.
Looking ahead: Construction of refrigerated concrete slabs is scheduled to begin in June and continue through the summer; installation of ice plant equipment is to continue in the coming months.
January 23, 2015 - Steel work, exterior wall construction and roofing continues on the curling centre. Interior construction is underway on the arenas, including concrete work as well as mechanical and electrical rough-in.
December 9, 2014 - Exterior wall construction and roofing installation is continuing on the ice arenas. Interior work has begun on the arenas. Exterior wall construction is now underway on the curling facility.
September 5, 2014 - Steel and masonry construction is ongoing. Rough-in of the underground services is complete. Mechanical and electrical rough-in is underway.
June 24, 2014 - Most of the concrete foundation work is now complete. Structural steel and masonry work is underway.
April 24, 2014 - Work continues on footings and walls. The elevator shaft is almost complete. Steel will be starting to go up in the next week or so.
January 17, 2014 - Foundation work continues on site as weather permits. Foundation walls will be poured in the coming weeks. Reinforcement and forming are being done on east end foundation and interior foundation walls. Steel is expected to be on site in February with installation of structural steel scheduled to begin in early March. The building structure will begin to take shape at this time.
October 1, 2013 - City Council votes unanimously to award the Phase 1 construction tender for the $32.5-million project to the low bidder, Ward Bros. Construction Ltd., of Lethbridge.
September 20, 2013 - The City celebrates a sod turning ceremony with our project funding partners, the Government of Canada and the Province of Alberta.
