Metis Trail Development

Current Status Construction of Phase 1
Timeline Phase 1 - Completed September 3, 2013
Location Phase 1 - Whoop up Drive to Temple Blvd

About the Project

Metis Trail will become a major north south arterial roadway and will provide access to new and future development west of Metis Trail. The need for this construction is related to the growth in traffic west of Metis Trail. As that growth occurs, this construction schedule will be updated.

Approved project (City Council approved):

Fall 2013 :  Install the underground infrastructure that provides the water distribution and wastewater collection required for growth in the west and southwest Lethbridge. The underground infrastructure is in the road right-of-way between Whoop-up drive and Temple Blvd, and needs to be installed prior to the road construction.

2013: Construct the first 2 lanes of the ultimate 4-lane arterial from Whoop Up Drive to Temple Blvd. This is to accommodate traffic from Copperwood (via. Coalbanks Link) and Varsity Village (via. Temple Blvd). (CIP page C-31)

The remaining portions of Metis trail, from Walsh drive in the north to Simon Fraser Blvd in the south are planned.  These projects are not funded and are not approved by City Council.
