Electric Meter Replacement Project

The City of Lethbridge Electric Utility will be replacing all residential electric meters over the next three years.
 
Meter replacements are currently occurring on an as needed basis.  Beginning in 2014,  the replacement project will begin replacing meters on a Neighbourhood by neighbourhood basis.

Electric Distribution Projects 2014-2023 

The projects identified for electric distribution are required to maintain a modern, efficient and reliable electric system. Electric distribution is the distribution of electricity from one of the City of Lethbridge's 5 substations to your home or business. The City of Lethbridge is responsible for maintaining 4,000 transformers, 780 kilometres of underground lines, 200 kilometres of overhead lines and other related infrastructure.

Electric Transmission Projects 2014-2023

The projects identified for electric transmission are required to maintain a modern, efficient and reliable electric transmission system. Electric transmission is the transmission of electricity from power plant and generators across Alberta to our 5 substations. The City of Lethbridge is responsible for maintaining 35 kilometres of 138,000 volt lines, 5 substations and other related infrastructure. 

Chinook Substation Development

This project was the construction of a new Electric Substation in west Lethbridge.

The purpose of the project was ​to provide a long term reliable supply of electrical energy to the north section of west Lethbridge.  In addition, the new transmission facilities provides a back up supply of electrical energy to the south section of West, North, and South Lethbridge during contingency events on the electrical utility system.  This substation was completed in Fall 2016.​

Electric Support Projects 2014-2023

Electric support projects contribute to both electric transmission and distribution. These projects are required to maintain modern, efficient and reliable electric system in the City of Lethbridge.

These projects are funded from customer charges and the Municipal Revenue Stabilization Reserve (MRSR).
