Lethbridge Transit wants to keep YOU informed about things that could be happening in YOUR transit system.  Please check back often for updates.

Get a 6-Day Bonus on your Breeze Card!

With the introduction of the Breeze Card, Lethbridge Transit would like to offer its loyal customers a bonus!  Every time you purchase 12 consecutive 30-day passes on your Breeze Card without letting your current pass expire, a 6-day bonus will be automatically added to your Breeze Card.  That means you can earn another 6-day bonus next year too!  And the year after that....

Why is Lethbridge Transit doing this?

When the Breeze Card went live in December 2011, Lethbridge Transit made the move from monthly passes that were tied to the calendar to convenient 30-day passes.  This gave our customers more flexibility in purchasing their transit fares as they could now purchase a transit pass that would start on any day of the month.  With the 30-day pass and some months having 28 (or 29 this year) and some having 31, we decided to give a bonus to make up for the difference.

Do I need to contact Lethbridge Transit to get my bonus?

Nope!  The 6-day bonus will be automatically added to your card at the farebox when you reach your 12th month.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

New HYBRID Buses have Hit the Road!

Lethbridge Transit has 5 new hybrid vehicles and they have hit the road!  These buses were purchased with the $5.63M of grant funding given by the Alberta Government and their GreenTRIP Program.  They will replace 10 of our buses that will reach the end of their life over the next 3 years.  We have received 5 now and will receive the remaining 5 in 2013.

How do they work?

Electric power is generated by the combustible engine and is stored in NiMH batteries.  Up to 40% of the energy used to accelerate the bus comes from energy saved through regenerative braking.  This process captures energy that would have been lost as heat when decelerating or stopping the bus.

Why is this bus BETTER?

  • Acceleration up to 18 km/hr is 100% battery driven
  • Average of 15% or more saving in fuel over the lifespan of the bus
  • Weight reduction of 10% contributing to fuel savings
  • Lower Green House Gas (GHG) Emissions:
    • 30% less CO2
    • 50% less NOx
    • 90-100% less particulate matter
  • All LED lighting - headlights and interior passenger lighting
  • Significant reduction in brake maintenance with regenerative braking
  • Quieter & smoother ride
  • Best wheelchair ramp slope in the industry at 1:7 for easier access with mobility aids
  • lowest entrance step height at 14" and 10" when the bus is kneeling

Accessible Transportation Advisory Committee

Lethbridge Transit has identified the need to have an Accessible Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) to assist administration in ensuring it has a tool for public input into the transit system.  This committee will be strategic in nature and its function will be: “to support Lethbridge Transit in the provision of an accessible public transportation system by providing an advisory body for community input”.

Lethbridge Transit has had some major changes in the past few years with assuming responsibility of the Handi-Bus service and with the transition to low floor buses making the Transit fleet 100% accessible.  This has created a more integrated system and one that is more responsive to the needs of its customers.

This committee is still in the early stages.  If you would like to learn more, please contact us at 403-320-3885.

Travel Training Program

Our Bus Travel Training program is a free, self-paced training program for people who want to learn to travel independently using our regular bus system. Training occurs one-on-one in a supportive environment.

All of Lethbridge Transit’s buses are 100% accessible.  They are low floor and kneel down to the street so you just walk right on.  There are no steps to climb.

Travel Training can give you the freedom to explore the City of Lethbridge.  Use your new skills and experience riding the bus to get out and have fun!  Go shopping, visit friends and relatives, and keep appointments.  Come and go as you wish - there is no need to pre-schedule rides!  Keep your independence and be engaged in the community.

Find out how you can get involved.  Please contact us at (403) 320-4023 or at AAR@lethbridge.ca.
