The Community Issues Committee of City Council will be meeting with a panel of independent specialists around the issue of drilling within City limits. This meeting is open to the general public.
COMMUNITY ISSUES COMMITTEE

The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for City Council and the citizens of Lethbridge to obtain information and gain education around the issue of oil drilling within the limits of the City of Lethbridge. Topics areas will include:
Tenure and How Mineral Leases are Awarded (Brenda Ponde, Alberta Energy)
Drilling Processes (Dr. Douglas Schmitt, University of Alberta)
Regulatory Framework and Public Safety (Bob Willard, Alberta Energy Regulator)
Public Health (Dr. Brent Friesen, Alberta Health Services)
Municipal Responsibilities and Jurisdiction (Jeff Greene, Brian Cornforth – City of Lethbridge)
Panel members were chosen for their knowledge and expertise in the defined topic areas as they relate to the broad issue of urban drilling.
A Community Issues Committee (CIC) meeting is an information gathering committee of City Council relating to community issues and actively involves citizens, community organizations and businesses on issues that affect them. CIC meetings are chaired by the Deputy Mayor, currently Councillor Ryan Parker.
This meeting will be streamed live on the City of Lethbridge website.
*Seating is limited to the capacity of the Yates Memorial Centre. Overflow will be accommodated in City Hall, Council Chambers where the meeting will be streamed live.
