The current public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus has impacted public life in many ways.
In accordance with the Meeting Procedures (COVID-19 Suppression) Regulation, Order in Council 99/2020, Lethbridge City Council and staff are working hard to keep your local government up and running while ensuring the safety of all participants is maintained.
Public meetings are always streamed on our website for anyone to see, and they are broadcast live on Shaw Spotlight, Channel 9, or on BlueCurve TV Channel 105.
Here is how you can still participate and have your voice heard:
Council & Council Committee Meetings
If you wish to attend from home, Council, Finance Committee, and Community Issues Committee meetings are streamed and recorded Here on our website for all to watch.
We are committed to keeping our meetings open to the public. We do, however, have an obligation as a municipality to meet the safety requirements imposed on us by the Alberta government for mass gatherings. We need to meet those requirements based on attendance by Council, Administration, presenters, the public, as well as the media. As such, to minimize the size of the gathering, public attendance within the Council Chamber will be limited based on current safety standards, and viewing arrangements have been made in the City Hall atrium outside the Chamber as well.
Participation is a vital part of public hearings, and we are doing our best to facilitate public participation while ensuring the public is safe. Contact
cityclerk@lethbridge.ca if you wish to speak to an issue at a public hearing.
Public Hearings take place to allow the public input on pressing issues, such as zoning changes. Any member of the public may speak to an issue at a public hearing. Public hearings take place during the procedure of regular Council Meetings, and are also
streamed along with the meeting.
Boards, Commissions, and Committees
While many of Council's Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCCs) are postponing their meetings for the time being, those that are still operating are doing their part to keep their meetings open to the public. Contact committee@lethbridge.ca for more information on how you can participate in a specific BCC.
