The Planning and Development Services Department works with residents and businesses to ensure that their aspirations, goals and values are reflected in the natural and built environment.
Our focus is to ensure the orderly and beneficial growth and development in Lethbridge and assisting our community in creating places for residents to live, work and play. Our work is guided by Provincial Legislation and City Council-approved plans, policies and bylaws.
Key business areas include:
- Planning Services – working with the community through education and engagement processes to ensure the effective use of land and design of dynamic and sustainable neighbourhoods.
- Development Services – facilitating effective site design that accommodates the use of land and placement of buildings in neighbourhoods that meet the needs and aspirations of the community.
- Building Inspection Services – ensuring that buildings on developed sites are constructed in accordance with Alberta Safety Codes Legislation, Building Bylaws, and Quality Management Plans for the safety and protection of the community.
- Assessment and Taxation – working with property owners and real estate market information to compile fair and equitable assessment values for the purpose of distributing taxes and collecting property taxes to fund municipal operations while striving for customer service excellence.
