With the retirement of Garth Sherwin as City Manager, Kathy Hopkins was appointed Interim City Manager, effective Dec. 1, 2017, to ensure a smooth transition as Council goes through the process of selecting a new city manager in the coming months.
Kathy has more than 30 years of experience in municipal government administration, including 20 years at the senior management level. She retired from the City of Lethbridge in 2015. During her career, she handled a diverse portfolio of municipal services including community services, planning and corporate services.
We have a shared leadership model which provides an opportunity for the Mayor and Councillors to work directly with Kathy as well as members of the Senior Management Team. This results in an integrated and coordinated approach to leading a large and complex organization.
In addition to assisting City Council, the role of the Senior Management Team is to lead the organization. Our organization is structured into sections that we refer to as family areas:
- Community Services
- Corporate Services
- Infrastructure Services
- Planning and Development
As a Senior Management Team, we have adopted and promote six pillars to lead the organization:
- Trust and Integrity
- Financially Accountable
- Environmental Responsibility
- Supportive and Caring
