National Indigenous Peoples Week events & celebrations

In cooperation with Indigenous organizations, the Government of Canada chose June 21, the summer solstice, for National Aboriginal Day, now known as National Indigenous Peoples Day. For generations, many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Week, there will be various celebrations happening around Lethbridge starting with a Flag Raising Ceremony today that will be shown virtually on social media.

June 15th: Virtual Flag Raising Ceremony - Facebook/City Hall

June 16th 2pm: Elder in the Making Documentary with Q & A - More information

June 21st 3pm: Fast Horse by SAAG – More information

The Galt Museum & Archives will be offering free admission from June 16-21 for any First Nations, Metis, or Inuit visitors. Additionally, they will be hosting online events throughout the week, for a detailed list of events head to www.galtmuseum.com.
