The ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic is adding a lot of financial uncertainty and added stress to residents and businesses.
Given the financial impact of residential and non-residential property tax bills, which includes the provincial education property tax, City Administration is carefully looking at all options for property tax support. While the federal and provincial governments have announced short-term financial aid and certain deferrals, property tax deferrals have a larger financial impact so options are being considered to relieve financial pressures.
Recommendations will be brought forward to City Council in the coming weeks before property tax rates and due dates are set.
Currently the 2020 property tax payment deadline is June 30, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
Anyone currently enrolled in the TIPP Program that is seeking short-term relief should call Lethbridge 311 to talk about different options. Property owners that have residential property taxes included in their mortgage should reach out to their financial institution for direction.
If upcoming bills are impacting the mental health of individuals or families, please visit www.lethbridge.ca/covidsupport for a list of local community resources.
