Council receives update on upcoming Phase 1 launch of curbside recycling

In an update to City Council, Waste & Recycling staff announced that this spring, blue carts will be delivered to about 900 homes in five Lethbridge neighbourhood as Phase 1 of the program gets underway. City-wide implementation will begin in 2019. Phase 1 areas were chosen based on several criteria including geographic location, front or rear pickup, street design and neighbourhood age.

Latest benchmarking report assesses road services

City Council members were briefed on the Alberta Municipal Benchmarking Initiative report on Roadway Services, the fifth of seven core service area reports expected to be issued from extensive data gathered under the initiative. The report indicates the cost of municipal roadway services in Lethbridge is the lowest among the six participating communities in Alberta while the condition of local roads is near the top.

London Road Area Redevelopment Plan approved

After concluding a public hearing that began Jan. 8 and was recessed to resume Jan. 22, City Council voted to approve the updated London Road Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP). The plan was developed over the past several years in consultation with London Road residents and other stakeholders. The London Road ARP is a detailed, long-term plan that coordinates neighbourhood conservation and sets out policies for the redevelopment of vacant and underutilized land and buildings.
