Governance review, improved transit, housing strategy, airport revitalization highlight Council's goals

A review of City Council's governance and budget processes, a more efficient transit system, a comprehensive housing strategy, and airport revitalization are among several strategic objectives Council has set out for the next four years. Council members approved the Council Strategic Plan which sets out how they intend to achieve five broad strategic goals between now and 2021: Accountable Leadership; Financial Stewardship and Economic Prosperity; Liveable Communities; Compassionate Community; and People Places for All. Read the complete Council Strategic Plan 2017-2021.

Task force to develop municipal housing strategy

Four members of City Council will form a task force to develop a municipal housing strategy that addresses the full spectrum of social and affordable housing needs in Lethbridge. The mandate of the task force is to consult with key external stakeholders and internal City departments and to strategically collaborate with other organizations and orders of government to define: Current and projected housing needs across the housing spectrum; current housing inventory; strategic priorities based on inventory and projected needs.

Provincial funding allocated to enhance Clean Sweep & Mobile Outreach services

City Council approved the use of up to $150,000 in previously unallocated provincial 2018-2019 Outreach Support Services Initiative funding for homelessness to expand the Downtown BRZ Clean Sweep program and Mobile Outreach services to supplement existing efforts to deal with needle debris in the community.
