Deck fire causes damage to west Lethbridge home

On Tuesday, June 2, Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire on the deck of a home in the Copperwood neighbourhood of west Lethbridge.

Three stations responded to a two story house fire where a barbeque on the back deck had malfunctioned and caught on fire. The fire extended onto the siding and exterior of the home.

When crews arrived, flames were showing from rear of the home and smoke was visible from attic vents. Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly, containing it to the rear of the house.

There was one minor injury reported. The individual was assessed by Fire and Emergency Services but hospitalization was not required.

A fire investigation has been completed and the cause was determined to be accidental. The home sustained damage to the exterior, windows and rear deck estimated at $20,000.

Residents are reminded of the importance of barbeque safety. More information is available here: https://www.lethbridge.ca/living-here/Emergency-Services/Fire-Prevention/Pages/Fire-Prevention-Videos.aspx
