Riley Olsen and Corey Bjarnason from Transportation Operations are our Employees of the Month for January 2017.
January 15, 2017 around 12:30 a.m. two friends were travelling on a backroad of West Lethbridge when their vehicle ended up getting high centered on a huge snow drift. It was windy and cold and these ladies were stranded for two hours with no way of calling for help.
Out of nowhere, Riley Olsen – Storm Watch and Corey Bjarnason – Machine Operator (2 Guardian Angels) appeared in the form of two snow plows. These two young men made sure that the ladies were unharmed, and then tucked them away warm and safe before they persevered through the weather to dig their vehicle out with one shovel.
Riley and Corey gratefully declined any offer of a reward from the ladies accepting only a handshake and a thank you. The ladies wanted to express what amazing employees the City of Lethbridge have in Riley and Corey, and that in their view they went above and beyond the call of duty. The outcome could have be very different if they got hurt or succumbed to the winter's elements.
Thank you gentleman, in their words you are "Heroes in our eyes and true heroes are….the ones that do not believe they are heroes and that is what you are …..True Heroes"
