Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial taking place Friday

On Friday, September 9, Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services will be participating in the 20th anniversary 9/11 Memorial parade and service.

This memorial is to remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty during the past year and a time to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication and sacrifice of all uniformed personnel who do so much to serve the communities they live in.

The past two-plus years have been challenging for LFES, especially with the uncertain dynamics through the pandemic. They have been all affected in some way but their members have responded with honour, dignity and determination to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

Of the many consequences of the pandemic, mental health has taken rise as the most common. It has affected friends, families, our communities and the LFES sisterhood/brotherhood. The good that has come out is a greater focus on treatment, recovery and resilience.

Friday's parade will be led by the Honour Guard and the Pipe Band and will begin at 10 a.m. at Fire Station No. 1. Members will march eastbound down 4 Avenue South through Downtown to the Southminster United Church to commence the memorial service.

Members of the Lethbridge Police Service will block intersections along 4 Avenue during the march. There will be brief interruptions to traffic flow through Downtown during this event.
